The Shining Community Development Programme – 05/17

27 June 2017

Eerste River, in Cape Town, is a middle class community where school drop-outs and crime rate are increasing. The Shining’s goals are to reduce the high crime rate by motivating young children to study and be involved in constructive social activities.

On the 16th June The Shining’s Junior soccer team got an invite to play against a team in Mfuleni, the AFM team, the invite was short notice and they would be up against Seniors of about 18 to 30. ┬áThe kids were so excited they decided to participate in the tournament as the only Junior’s.

IAC decided to sponsor The Shining Team’s Soccer Kits to ensure they looked the part of a professional team and to help the Junior’s feel battle ready!

The tournament was a real life David and Goliath story, it was tough for our Shining Team Junior’s but they did very well! More especially considering this constraint.

  • First Game: Shining won 3-0
  • Second Game: Draw 1-1
  • Third Game: Shining lost 4-2
